DESCRIPTION:Mr. Snotsense's World of Fun!\nMr. Snotsense (“It’s Not Sense”)\, aka Eric Paetkau\, is just a big kid who loves sharing music and stories. His infectious energy gets people singing\, dancing\, and yearning for ice cream. \nSure\, he’s been a professional orchestra conductor for many years (Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra 2015-2022\, founder of the Juno-nominated group of 27 orchestra\, etc.) but Eric can’t get enough of the pure joy and laughter that comes with performing live shows for kids and their parents. Combining his interactive\, original songs and goofy stories\, Eric’s live shows are a hoot. He’s also got a weekly online TV show for kids\, writes children's books\, and uses a banana phone.

SUMMARY:The Curst
DESCRIPTION:  \nwritten by \nKelley Jo Burke\nSponsored by the David Edney Fund for Theatre \n  \n  \n"All my friends are buying diamonds for their girls \nAnd bringing children into this world \nSigning their name to a home on land they've captured \nMe? I'm still writing songs I'm scared you'll hear someday" - Carver\, Library Voices \nThe Curst may be the unluckiest band ever.  They're from small-town Saskatchewan\, and they don't play country.  Their lead singer Merle is too neurotic to actually show anyone his songs.  And it seems they're being stalked by some kind of guardian angel gone really\, really bad.  Their life on the road is such a series of injuries\, freak catastrophes\, and grueling hours in a beat up van\, that they are starting to wonder whether it's just time to quit. \nBut sometimes\, just sometimes\, they make magic together and fly.  Maybe it's all worth it? \nThen good fortune shows it's face.  To The Curst.  All they need to do is keep it together and avoid any dodgy angelic interference for a few more days. What. Could. Go. Wrong? \nWritten by national-award winner Kelley Jo Burke (The Selkie Wife) and featuring the songs of Saskatchewan's indi-pop legends Library Voices (Denim on Denim\, Summer of Lust)\, The Curst is a funny\, loving rock-musical about why year after year\, generation after generation\, bands climb into bad vans\, and head out on another gig...no matter the cost. \n  \nDancing Sky Theatre is located in the village of Meacham\, SK – just a 50 minute drive east of Saskatoon. Harvest Hall houses the intimate theatre and dining-room where you are able to enjoy a three course\, home cooked meal before performances Friday thru Sunday. For more on Dancing Sky visit their website at dancingskytheatre.com. \nReserve tickets for the show only\, or the show and meal. \n\n\nIn the Diningroom:\nDancing Sky Theatre offers you a fully licenced dining-room and tables that seat up to eight people. Enjoy full table service of a three course meal created especially for each show by our Chef Ernie Kurz.  For the menu link to Dancing Sky here. \nReservations are required for the dining-room. \nYou must alert us to vegetarian or allergy concerns when you make reservations. As much as we would like to\, we are not able to make last minute substitutions. (You will be asked for this information near the end of your on-line payment.) \nBe sure to bring cash or a credit card for the bar as we DO NOT have debit services.\n\n  \nCOVID POLICY At this time we are strongly encouraging guests to wear masks inside the theatre.  We will have some on hand if you forget yours.\n \nNOTE - Due to weather and construction we encourage you to check the highway hotline for any travel delays.

SUMMARY:The Unforgettables
DESCRIPTION:  \nProduced by \nFight or Flight Theatre & Wonder City Collective\nThe 3rd Show of the Live Five Season\nWritten by Erin Brophy \n  \n\n\nIn Post WWI-America\, decadence is everywhere. Many women work as dial-painters\, crafting artisan watches by hand at one of the most popular corporations of the 1920's. Yet even the most luminous element casts a dark shadow: Following the death of their friend\, five women rally against their employer's dangerous practices in an unforgettable legal battle that has shaped the course of history. \n\n\nContent\n\n\ndiscussion of medical trauma\, discussion of pregnancy and infant loss\, discussion of death \n\n\n  \nFounded in 2019\, Fight or Flight Theatre is an intersectional feminist theatre company committed to using what we know to find what we don't. We prioritize the stories of women\, the 2SLGBTQ+community\, and those with lived experience of misogyny. \nWonder City Collective (Founded 2020) shares these values and will make sure that every one of those voices in the room is heard and taken seriously. We will work hard to ensure that traditional power imbalances within a rehearsal hall are not present\, and the entire process is a collective work. \n  \n \nThe producing company encourages wearing face masks while in the theatre.

SUMMARY:After Sundown
DESCRIPTION:Regarding the remount of After Sundown Jan 19-22\, 2023\nLive Five\, On the Boards and the company of After Sundown were all so pleased to find a time when everyone was available to remount After Sundown. Unfortunately\, despite the efforts of all involved\, the remount is now unable to move forward. \nOne of the company’s key people has had to withdraw for medical reasons which makes the production impossible.  You cannot imagine how disappointed we all are that the show can not go on. \nOur sincerest apologies for not being able to make this work. \n  \nProduced by \nPegasus Productions\nWritten by Gordon Portman \n  \nThe estranged adult child of a troubled marriage returns home in a time of crisis. After Sundown gives this universal story a unique\, contemporary feel: the returning Lu is defining their place on the gender-identity spectrum; their father is struggling with Alzheimer’s; and their mother is struggling with the responsibilities of being a caregiver. As the characters seek a healthy\, safe way through the letting go of pasts and the challenges of a present that are keeping them from moving into the future\, the challenges of\, their relationships are complicated by the vivid\, theatricalized presence of old longings and vivid\, enacted memories. \nThis production has content that could be triggering for people.  Click here to read the content warnings. \n \n  \nThe producing company is encouraging everyone to wear face masks while in the theatre.   \n  \nPegasus Productions formed in 2017 to produce George Brant’s “Grounded\,” produced in association with Live Five and nominated for several SATAwards. “After Sundown” will be the company’s second production. Pegasus explores contemporary moral and/or social issues involving interdisciplinary and/or interactive contributions from a variety of artistic disciplines.

SUMMARY:Songs of Home
DESCRIPTION:  \nMaking her debut performance with songs from her first solo album\, Cree singer/songwriter Falynn Baptiste will be joined by Gabe Penna for an evening of songs that tell stories of connection and belonging.  Baptiste’s new album titled “Home” is a collection of contemporary folk music written in both Cree and English. Baptiste\, who was raised by first language Cree speakers\, released a contemporary Christmas album with all songs translated and sung in the Cree language titled “A Cree Christmas” in 2020. “I wanted to take a language that was perhaps unfamiliar to many (both Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike) and create an opportunity to connect with the language; and in doing so create a sense of wonder and curiosity.” Baptiste will be accompanied by composer and pianist\, Jo Carter and guitarist Lance Whitecalf.  \n  \nGabe Penna first came on the scene with his debut album “Coffee Cup” in 2005. Since then\, he has performed across the province and released 3 more discs of music with his Band “Gabe Penna & The Rising”.  Growing up with 60s and 70s Folk influences\, he is often vocally compared to Cat Stevens\, with the lyrics of Bruce Cockburn.  Gabe approaches his performing and song writing with a desire to encourage the listener in their journey by touching on the themes of being free to be oneselves\, to love unconditionally and to know all will be well. It is obvious his music serves the same purpose in his life.  \n  \na word about Covid and the flu\n\n \nMasks are preferred but not mandatory.

SUMMARY:Hand to God
DESCRIPTION:  \nProduced by \nPpl r Ppl Productions\nThe 2nd Show of the Live Five Season\nWritten by Robert Askins \n  \n\n\nIn the tiny\, conservative town of Cypress\, Texas\, the shy\, mild-mannered Jason is just trying to be a good son. When he joins his mother Margery's Christian Puppet Ministry at the local church\, Jason discovers a burgeoning talent for puppetry\, and it seems like things after his father's sudden death might just turn out okay. \nTyrone the puppet\, though\, has other plans. As the foul-mouthed\, independent\, and devilishly funny Tyrone grows in strength\, Jason's complex relationships with the school bully\, the girl-next-door\, and most importantly\, his mother\, are thrown into upheaval. \nAn irreverent\, occasionally shocking\, and perpetually hysterical romp to hell and back\, Hand To God is an exploration of the ideas of faith\, morality\, and human nature that will leave audiences rolling in the aisles. \n\n\n  \nContent Warning\n\n\nHand to God is rated R for rude\, raunchy\, and riotously funny content.   Ages 12+\, dark religious humour\, foul language\, and sexual violence. \n\n\n  \n \nThe producing company is encouraging everyone to wear face masks while in the theatre. \n  \nPpl r Ppl Productions is about.. PEOPLE. It's about telling stories that invite audiences to see things from a perspective somewhere outside their own backyards. We do our best to bring something fresh to Saskatoon's theatre scene\, and we choose to produce works that we find exciting and engaging. We believe that something magical happens when the lights start to dim\, the actors take their places\, and the audience fastens their seatbelts.. Ppl r Ppl is proud to be celebrating their sixth season by participating in the Live Five Season with a show that's never been done here in Saskatoon!

SUMMARY:Third Time's A Charm
DESCRIPTION:All profits from this show will be donated to the Red Cross Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal.\nclick here to go directly to Red Cross\n  \n"Rhonda's songs bring me back to the strength and beauty ever present in prairie skyline with her evocative lyrics\, and effortlessly graceful voice."  Christine Baxter of Sweet Santa Fe Music (Comox\, B.C.) \n  \nA singer songwriter from the Saskatoon area\, Rhonda is unabashedly influenced by the beauty of the prairie around her.  This is reflected in the many songs she writes and sings. \n  \nGallant-Morari has released two albums and several singles.  Her first album 'Dance against the Wind' (2014) centres around the cycles of everyday life and personal experience. Her more recent EP 'Star Drift' dropped in September of 2020.  It is a mixture of genres involving three of Saskatchewan's finest producers: Bart McKay\, Brad Prosko and Ross Nykiforuk.  There is a taste of folk\, jazz\, gospel and a little country. \n  \nReleasing new music during the height of the Pandemic has been challenging. Having to cancel the original release concert in 2020\, and then a second show last fall\, Rhonda is gathering the band together once more\, as third time’s a charm! Together\, they will play songs from the newest album\, a few older tunes\, some covers\, & new songs created in isolation.  They will also perform her latest single\, “Leave” which has a March release date. \n  \nJoining her on stage are friends Matt Bender on bass and vocals\, Ken Pizurny on keys\, accordion and vocals\, Greg Kryworuchka on guitar\, violin and vocals and Jeff Morari on drums.  Nothing beats the intimacy of playing for a live audience! Rhonda and the band are excited to finally be able to share this evening of song and camaraderie at the Refinery! A live-on-stage stream also available. \nphoto Karen Pidskalny @ Red Chair Studio
