SUMMARY:Paper Wheat
DESCRIPTION:Paper Wheat  by 25th Street Theatre\nWay back in 1977 an enthusiastic group of young Saskatchewan theatre artists\, working at 25 th Street Theatre\, went out into rural communities to do research. They ended up creating PAPER WHEAT\, which explored the stories of the early homesteaders in our province and the creation of the once-mighty\, farmer owned\, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. It was\, perhaps\, the first truly Saskatchewan theatre – created collectively\, telling our own stories\, in our own language\, and presented in a simple\, down to earth\, make-do-with-what-you-have kind of aesthetic. It took the country by storm and put us on the theatrical map. It also had a huge influence on me and my generation of Saskatchewan theatre atrtists. \n30 years ago Dancing Sky Theatre inherited the mantle of that kind of work – new\nSaskatchewan plays\, rooted in rural culture\, telling our own stories in our own way.\nWe are now beyond excited to go back and re-visit the play that started it all\, in our own\ninimitable way. Come and celebrate and reflect with us as Dancing Sky re-visits and re-creates the one and only\, mythic PAPER WHEAT. \nDancing Sky Theatre is located in the village of Meacham\, SK – just a 50 minute drive east of Saskatoon. Harvest Hall houses the intimate theatre and dining-room where you are able to enjoy a three course\, home cooked meal before performances Friday thru Sunday. For more on Dancing Sky visit their website at dancingskytheatre.com. \nReserve tickets for the show only\, or the show and meal. \nIn the Dining Room: \n\nDancing Sky Theatre offers you a fully licenced dining-room and tables that seat up to eight people. SUMMARY:Greensleep
DESCRIPTION:Dancing Sky Theatre is thrilled to present the world premier of another exciting new Saskatchewan play: GREENSLEEP by Kelley Jo Burke. \nIn it she asks\, in a kind of bonkers way\, what if the global climate change crisis was viewed not as an end\, but an opportunity to re-imagine our place in the beautiful\, complex\, interconnected web of life that shares space on this magical small planet we call home? \nCreate a new mythology that connects us to the magical web of life rather than trying to control it? Come and witness the magic of GREENSLEEP and dream the possibilities with us. \nDancing Sky Theatre is located in the village of Meacham\, SK – just a 50 minute drive east of Saskatoon. SUMMARY:The Curst
DESCRIPTION:  \nwritten by \nKelley Jo Burke\nSponsored by the David Edney Fund for Theatre \n  \n  \n"All my friends are buying diamonds for their girls \nAnd bringing children into this world \nSigning their name to a home on land they've captured \nMe? I'm still writing songs I'm scared you'll hear someday" - Carver\, Library Voices \nThe Curst may be the unluckiest band ever.  They're from small-town Saskatchewan\, and they don't play country.  Their lead singer Merle is too neurotic to actually show anyone his songs.  And it seems they're being stalked by some kind of guardian angel gone really\, really bad.  Their life on the road is such a series of injuries\, freak catastrophes\, and grueling hours in a beat up van\, that they are starting to wonder whether it's just time to quit. \nBut sometimes\, just sometimes\, they make magic together and fly.  Maybe it's all worth it? \nThen good fortune shows it's face.  To The Curst.  All they need to do is keep it together and avoid any dodgy angelic interference for a few more days. What. Could. Go. Wrong? \nWritten by national-award winner Kelley Jo Burke (The Selkie Wife) and featuring the songs of Saskatchewan's indi-pop legends Library Voices (Denim on Denim\, Summer of Lust)\, The Curst is a funny\, loving rock-musical about why year after year\, generation after generation\, bands climb into bad vans\, and head out on another gig...no matter the cost. \n  \nDancing Sky Theatre is located in the village of Meacham\, SK – just a 50 minute drive east of Saskatoon. Harvest Hall houses the intimate theatre and dining-room where you are able to enjoy a three course\, home cooked meal before performances Friday thru Sunday. SUMMARY:Pandemics\, Pratfalls & Prayers
DESCRIPTION:Produced by \nDancing Sky Theatre\n  \n  \nWe have all just shared a momentous and world changing 18 months\, going through the first worldwide pandemic of our lifetimes. It has had a huge effect upon all of us. We seem to be making good progress “sticking it to COVID” through the wonders of science and the power of mass action. Now seems like a good time to start “sticking it to COVID” through the magic and power of The Arts. \nPandemics\, Pratfalls and Prayers is a response to our rapidly changing and challenging times\, dominated by the COVID virus. It is a chance to reflect on what has happened\, and a chance for us to cheer and boo at the events we have endured. It is also an opportunity to reflect collectively on how it has changed us. What have we lost? What have we learned? What have we achieved? Simple pleasures that we always took for granted were suddenly taken away. Connections that we relied upon were strained and even broken. We have also proven what we can do as a species if we really pull together and genuinely commit to mass action. We have responded to a global crisis like never before – which means we can do it again if we truly want to. \nDancing Sky has chosen to go on a new adventure\, creating a large-scale outdoor piece to be performed in our lovely new amphitheatre. We will use theatre magic\, music\, masks\, humour and ritual to create an event that will bring us back together to share space and experience. The show will be aimed at the whole family so that you can come with your loved ones and your friends to rebuild connections and community. \n  \nThe performance will last about 90 minutes with an intermission.  A picnic meal can be pre-ordered when you reserve your tickets.  Our bar will be open before the show and at intermission. \nYou will be outside in our amphitheatre so dress for the weather.  Bring a cushion or blanket if you like. \n  \nNOTE - Highway 5 and 16 are under construction between Meacham and Saskatoon so please check the highway hotline and plan route accordingly. \nvisit Dancing Sky's website

We built a beautiful outdoor amphitheatre that looks out across the prairie\, allowing 30 people to safely get together to listen to stories of rural life and landscape. Last fall’s event was so popular that we are bringing you a second version this spring. \n  \nFour professional storytellers will share their reflections on rural life and history in Saskatchewan. Saskatoon institution Kent Allen will share a personal story of how his family came to settle in this beautiful province. We will be exploring the boundaries of storytelling through movement and dance by partnering with Jackie Latendresse and her wonderful Free Flow Dance Company\, including dancers Mitchell Larsen and Taylor Zeller. We will also be sharing the amazing talent of Anna Bekolay who will be entrancing you with her magical vocal and musical skills. \n  \nLike last fall\, you will enjoy an evening of outdoor entertainment in our spectacular rural setting and experience the ancient power of gathering together to share our stories. \nPerformance will last about 75 minutes with no intermission. \n  \n  \nTheatre in Covid Times\nDue to current COVID restrictions we are unable to offer you food or drink this time around\, but we will bring that option back as soon as we are all vaccinated\, and communities can assemble safely. \nThe current Saskatchewan Health Authority Restrictions will be followed.  Masks are required.  The contact information you provided when purchasing tickets will be used for contact tracing if necessary. \nPlease\, self monitor and do not attend if:  you have recently traveled outside of Saskatchewan or have been in contact with someone who has; you are showing symptoms of illness or have been in contact with someone who has been ill. \nShould you need to cancel\, tickets can be refunded ($2 processing fee) \n  \nNOTE - Highway 5 is under major construction between Meacham and Saskatoon the next couple years so please check highway hotline and plan route accordingly. \nvisit Dancing Sky's website

I’m still writing songs I’m scared you’ll hear someday” — Carver\, Library Voices \n  \nThe Curst may be the unluckiest band ever. They’re from small-town Saskatchewan\, and they don’t play country. Their lead singer Merle is too neurotic to actually show anyone his songs. And it seems they’re being stalked by some kind of guardian angel gone really\, really bad.  Their life on the road is such a series of injuries\, freak catastrophes\, and grueling hours in a beat-up van\, that they are starting to wonder whether it’s just time to quit. \nThen good fortune shows its face to The Curst. All they need to do is keep it together and avoid any dodgy angelic interference for a few more days. What. Could. Go. Wrong? \nWritten by national-award winner Kelley Jo Burke (The Selkie Wife) and featuring the songs of Saskatchewan’s indi-pop legends Library Voices (Denim on Denim\, Summer of Lust). \n  \nDancing Sky Theatre is located in the village of Meacham\, SK – just a 40 minute drive east of Saskatoon. Harvest Hall houses the intimate theatre and diningroom where you are able to enjoy a three course\, home cooked meal before performances Friday thru Sunday. For more on Dancing Sky visit their website at dancingskytheatre.com. \nReserve tickets for the show only\, or the show and meal. \n  \nIn the Diningroom:\nDancing Sky Theatre offers you a fully licenced diningroom and tables that seat up to 8 people. Enjoy full table service of a 3 course meal created especially for each show by our Chef Ernie Kurz. \nBe sure to bring cash or a credit card as we DO NOT have debit services.\nReservations are required for the diningroom. \nYou must alert us if you are vegetarian or have allergy concerns when you make reservations. SUMMARY:The Fourth Wise Man
DESCRIPTION:Produced by \nDancing Sky Theatre\na Dancing Sky Theatre Collective\nDirected by \nAngus Ferguson\n  \n“I do not know where this little story came from--out of the air\, perhaps. One thing is certain\, it is not written in any other book\, nor is it to be found among the ancient lore of the East. And yet I have never felt as if it were my own. It was a gift\, and it seemed to me as if I knew the Giver." —Henry Van Dyke \n  \nThis holiday season\, Dancing Sky Theatre is re-visiting one of our very first collective creations THE FOURTH WISEMAN\, which is inspired by an 1895 novella by Henry Van Dyke. Many of us are familiar with the visit of the ‘three wise men’ as part of the Christmas story\, and with the famous gifts that they brought. But what if there was a fourth wise man? One who started out on the journey but missed the nativity by three days and\, as a result\, spent the rest of his life searching for the promised King? \nIn this production\, Dancing Sky Theatre explores what happens when things don’t go as planned\, when we lose our way\, and struggle through hardship and delays. This little story reminds us that despite setbacks\, perhaps even because of them\, we may be closer to our goals than we think. We have actually travelled further than we realize. \nWhen we first explored this story 16 years ago\, Cam Fuller of the Star Phoenix noted that it “looks through the meaning of Christmas and into the meaning of love.” It is a deceptively simple story that lets us reflect on the values that we all grapple with at this time of year. SUMMARY:Farmer Joe And The Money Trees
DESCRIPTION:As part of our 20th birthday we are going back to the source and re-creating the original prairie-panto story of Jack and the Widow Spriggins\, with many of the original cast returning for a magical trip down memory lane. \nIn 2005\, a group of artists collectively created a new script that would start a new Christmas tradition at Dancing Sky. Farmer Joe and the Money Trees was inspired by English pantomime\, but had its’ sensibility firmly rooted in the prairie dirt. It was a rollicking evening of family fun – full of laughs\, music\, puppets and thoughtful social commentary. It quickly became an audience favorite and was followed by six more wacky installments – all of them immensely popular with our audience. \nDancing Sky Theatre is located in the village of Meacham\, SK – just a 40 minute drive east of Saskatoon.
