Presented by Saskatoon Opera, an entertaining evening of Canadian song featuring John Greer’s recently composed “A Prairie Boy’s Life” which draws its inspiration from William Kurelek’s writings and paintings. The music is scored for vocal quartet and four-hand piano, and while it harkens back in feeling to the music of the Romantic salon, it is also filled with contemporary references. Snowstorms, softball, prairie crocuses, and an ecstatic chorus of mosquitoes are all brought to life with projected images of Kurelek’s renowned paintings as the back drop A delightful and beautiful tribute to life on the Prairies.
Also, as part of this concert, Shirley Elias presents A Prairie Girl’s Life. As both concert pianist and visual artist, Shirley demonstrates how the flow and rhythm of sound, color and design have entwined in a singular artistic journey.
