Composers in the Baroque era started our fascination for the concerto: a soloist takes centre stage to show off their virtuosity and it never fails to impress! The Baroque composers were often virtuosos themselves, so they brought a level of difficulty and sparkle to this new musical form.
For this concert we’re celebrating the concerto and some exceptional Saskatoon talent. Three of the SSO’s finest musicians explore their instrument concerti in this concert of effervescent melodies and dancing baroque rhythms.
This concert marks the SSO debut of violinist Veronique Mathieu, the first David L. Kaplan Chair in Music, University of Saskatchewan. Veronique is hailed as one of Canada’s finest violinsts, having performed around the globe as soloist.
