Sunday Chamber 2

“If music be the food of love, play on! Give me excess of it!”

As part of our Mid-Winter Music Festival exploring the musical muse that is Shakespeare, the SSO Chamber Players brings you an afternoon of music inspired by the Bard.

Beethoven was a fervent lover of Shakespeare’s works, and in his String Quartet Op. 18 No. 1, he captures Juliet’s tomb scene in the stunning second movement. Saskatchewan composer Elizabeth Raum wrote incidental music for a production of King Lear, and when the production closed she created a suite of the music for wind quintet, the King Lear Fantasy. These pieces and much more—even a few surprise guests—as we explore the food of love!

The SSO’s Sunday Chamber Series is moving across the river to historic Convocation Hall. Street parking and some parking lots are free on campus on Sundays.  We encourage all concert goers to bring their favourite coffee in a travel mug.
