An Evening of Music & Stories

Event Navigation

Ric Dreidiger, Kimbal Siebert and Eileen Laverty team up to present an evening of stories and songs inspired by their travels on the mighty Churchill River. In the tradition of the campfire, the three will share tunes and tales about canoeing, backcountry camping, adventures and misadventures, and further kindle your excitement for the upcoming paddling season.
Author Ric Driediger started guiding canoe trips in Northern Saskatchewan in 1973. If he hasn't been on a canoe route in Saskatchewan, he has talked with several groups who have. He owned and operated Churchill River Canoe Outfitters in Missinipe for 35 years, and has published two books: Paddling Northern Saskatchewan: A Guide to 80 Canoe Routes, and Stories from the Churchill. A gifted storyteller, his stories and information are an asset to any paddler. Most of all he longs to be out on the water in his canoe, retracing favourite routes or exploring those he has yet to paddle.
Long a fixture on the Western Canadian music scene, multi-instrumentalist Kimbal Siebert is known for his work with artists like Andrea Menard, Shantaia, the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra. What's less known is that as a youngster, when he wasn't working on his guitar licks in his bedroom, Kimbal was in a canoe working on his J stroke and eddy turns on the Churchill River. Whether on the stage or in the studio, some of that northern wilderness sensibility seeps into every note he plays.
Eileen Laverty has performed across Canada entertaining all ages with her soulful voice, heartfelt lyrics, and engaging humour. Her music has been featured on film and television, and she has performed with a diverse range of artists, including the late country legend Kenny Rogers, rocker Tom Cochrane, and the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra. She has released three CDs and several singles to date. Eileen also loves the outdoors; many of her songs were composed in and around the northern forests and rivers of Saskatchewan.
