Long Grass Studio and Workshop

TRIPLE Bill with original new work by Saskatchewan Artists: Sherron Burns and Rowan Pantel.

Long Grass Studio and Workshop are excited to come to Saskatoon with their latest puppet tale - The Bench. This delightfully entertaining play allows you to reflect on life emulated entirely through puppetry.

A public bench is an unassuming place to sit and share with others.  A public service. A place to rest, contemplate nature, share confidences, find solace in the view.  But are some more worthy to use it than others?  The Bench tells the story of how one simple structure affect the lives of many and explores what makes a true community.

Sherron Burns will start the evening with "The Moon She Glows" a short shadow play meditation on the moon that weaves together transformation stories and dream images.

Rowan Pantel, a Saskatoon Puppeteer extraordinaire,  will present a short play called "Fridge Magnets and Suit Cases"

AND There will be an in depth Artists’ Talk Back and Slide Presentation called “Behind the Bench” after the 3 Shows - so you can see what it takes to put on a puppet play like "The Bench" - hope you join us for that as well!

Appropriate for puppet lovers big and small. This show is suitable for ages 12 and up.

Who we are

The Long Grass Studio has produced several well received puppet productions. Most recently, they produced and performed to sold audiences in Calgary ‘Broken Sugar Bowl’, a tribute to Mildred Trembley.

The Studio and Workshop focuses on building puppets for theatres across Canada. Clients include Brock University (Goremenghast), Ghost River Theatre (GIANT – a tribute to Andre the Giant), Between Shifts Theatre (Kayak), Old Trout’s Puppet Workshop and the Calgary Opera (Ghost Opera), Youth Singers Calgary (The Eternal Quest) and Quest Theatre ( Shoes of Sand, Frosty the Snowman and Snow Angel).

"The Bench" made its debut at the 2018 OUF! Puppet Festival in Montreal demonstrating that little shows can make a big impact. Juanita and Monica next presented it to a sold out audience in March 2019 at the International Festival of Animated Objects in Calgary. It was shown again in November 2019... with 4 SOLD OUT performances in Calgary and one in Vancouver.

Now in Saskatoon for ONE SHOW ONLY they are partnering with Lighthouse - a local charity that provides assistance to those in need of shelter and comfort.
